In this webinar, Blanche Podhajski, Ph.D., founder of the Stern Center for Language and Learning, and Nancy Mather, Ph.D., Professor Emerita, University of Arizona, will address how critical it is for teachers to understand the complexities of the sound and alphabetic systems of our English language. Specific examples of challenges children experience in acquiring phonological awareness and mapping speech to print will be discussed. The presenters will provide suggestions for how to best integrate phonology and orthography for instruction.
