EDUCATIONAL BOARD
Dr. Fumiko Hoeft is Professor of Psychiatry and Weill Institute for Neurosciences (profiles.ucsf.edu/fumiko.hoeft), Deputy Director of Dyslexia Center (dyslexia.ucsf.edu), and Director of a Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory at UCSF (brainLENS.org). She is also Executive Director of University of CA Multicampus Precision Learning Center (PrecL.org). Her current research program focuses on brain development, and brain mechanisms underlying learning. She is particularly interested in acquisition of skills such as reading, neurodevelopmental conditions such as dyslexia, and other factors important for learning such as motivation and resilience. She has an MD and PhD from Keio University in Tokyo and received research training at Harvard, Caltech and Stanford Universities. Honors include the 2014 Norman Geschwind Memorial Lectureship from the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), and 2015 Transforming Education through Neuroscience from Learning & the Brain Foundation. She has published over 120 peer-reviewed research articles, reviews, and book chapters, and has delivered over 150 keynotes, lectures and workshops. Her work has been widely covered in media such as The New York Times, NPR, CNN, the New Yorker, and Scientific American. She also serves on the Board of the IDA, National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD) and Center for Childhood Creativity.
