ABOUT US > Introduction
Boon is an organization that is funded by our core-funders as well as outside donors, giving at all levels. Boon in turn makes innovative grants to professional learning programs in education. Our aim is to improve literacy instruction with teacher scholarships that provide training in explicit, multi-sensory teaching methods. Our designated training grantees are the finest in America: Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators, (AOGPE), the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council, (IMSLEC), the Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA) and Wilson Language Training Non-profit partners.
- Core-funders: Preliminary trial grants from our core-funders allowed us to test potential giving strategies. Now we are seeking greater outcomes by allying with a broad group of donors to grow and sustain our initiatives.
- Our Grantees: We identify and work with independent organizations outside the systemic approach to teacher preparation that have proven success with teacher training and practice. These grantees represent access points that could collectively improve American public education.
- Proactive Funding: Our model of philanthropy is based on our own broad perspective that depends upon research, analysis, and strategic reasoning. Rather than accept solicitations from individual organizations, we initiate and negotiate the terms of potential funding.
- Reaching Best Outcomes: Dollars alone do not guarantee results, nor do they insure the development of long term institutional strength. Stewardship by experts chosen for the task maximizes the impact of the funding and the grantee organization's success.
